Why I believe Pudgy Penguins isn’t a regular NFT collection

Pudgy Penguins is an 8.888 NFT collection living on the ETH blockchain.

On Dec 27th, it reached an ATH of 7.1 eth (around $8.605,2) at the price conversion back then.

I believe that the success of Pudgy Penguins is easily partly given to how brandable the NFT art is. Their art falls in the cute category that you can imagine in kids' toys, clothing, plushies, books, TV shows, and almost anything.

Their art is so easy to be liked (appeals to all ages) that if there were Pudgy plushies in a store, I’m sure a lot of people would buy them.

Not all NFT projects have that driving factor.

Their marketing strategy is also VERY clever.

Pudgy Penguin’s Instagram account has grown a lot to 261k followers.

It never mentions they are an NFT project.

The account posts relatable, casual content that is already appealing to people.

You already know how powerful memes and gifs are, right? It can definitely help give exposure to a brand.

Pudgy Penguins has designed a lot of gifs, and they already crossed over 1.3 billion views on GIPHY.

The current team has understood that in order to bring mass adoption to their brand, they have to create and market content that is appealing to the masses.

Content that doesn’t only talk about the NFT project, but uses its art and creativity to familiarize its image.

Of course, that opens new sources of income for the brand, new deals, more opportunities, and the ability to bring new people to the space that aren’t as exposed to NFTs.

// IPs

Pudgy Penguins is also one of the NFT brands that are working on IPs & licensing with their holders.

One of the examples is the upcoming Children’s Book, which features penguins from the community. Or… toys and plushies, in partnership with PMI Toys. Holders were also offered to license their penguins for this deal.

I really like when NFT projects experiment with their image and art since a lot of NFTs have the potential to become a huge brands by using it.

One of the NFT brands that have the highest amount of built IPs is… you guessed it, BAYC.

A good amount of holders and brands have used apes as an image for businesses/services, and brands.

A few examples: @BorednHungry @jenkinsthevalet, etc!

Some random facts about Pudgy Penguins according to @nftgoio:

  1. 51% of the holders are unique holders
  2. 25% of those are bluechip holders (meaning they own NFTs from other blue-chip collections)
  3. In the last 30d, the holder count has been increasing a ton. It’s at 4.53k now.
